Active Labor Childbirth Prep Classes

This is a unique experience that focuses on what you AND your birthing partner can do prior to, during and after the birth of your child to reduce risks of injury and improve your birth experience. Taught by a movement and pain management expert with her doctorate in physical therapy.

This class will leave expectant moms and their partners excited to play an active role in their preparation, birth and recovery. Active Labor Childbirth Prep Class increases participants’ confidence in having a birth experience that aligns with their values no matter the circumstances.

FITNESS & WELLNESS SERVICES

helping you stay active with safe modifications for pregnancy and exercises that will help prepare your body for birth – spoiler, it’s more than just kegels

Active Pregnancy Prep Wellness Services

Individual Exercise and Lifestyle Education for Preventing injury and disability, promoting healthy lifestyle and improving quality of life. Integrative approach considering diet*, activity, mental health**, physical health.

Typical Pregnancy Wellness Goals:

  • Staying active throughout pregnancy, safely
  • Modifying exercise each trimester to reduce risk of injury and continue to get the benefits of physical activity for mom and baby
  • Preparing your body for birth through exercise, education, and preparation
  • Intended for those with clearance from their obstetric provider to exercise
  • These services are not a replacement for physical therapy (see below)

What can I expect?

  • a discovery call to discuss your goals and determine the right services for you; we will schedule your evaluation at the end of this call
  • an fitness/wellness evaluation that looks at how you are currently moving, which may include an assessment of your abdominals, pelvic floor (externally), posture, breathing, strength, coordination/balance, scar tissue healing, and body mechanics – this varies based on your individual needs
  • a discussion of where you are in your pregnancy journey and what to expect as your estimated due date approaches
  • an individual plan and program to address your goals – with wellness services, you are really in the driver’s seat, so your provider may make recommendations, but we will make a plan together that works around your expectations!
  • general and individual modifications to exercises
  • exercises that help prepare you for the birth that you prefer
  • Treatments may include:
    • Manual therapy (hands-on treatment)
    • Home Exercise Program
    • Education

Provided with or without a referral in the state of Ohio. Formal evaluation and plan of care created to address pain or inability to perform your daily activities possibly due to a recent injury or surgery or to address a long-standing issue.

Typical women’s health complaints treated:

Pregnancy

  • Neck, shoulder, back, hip, knee and foot/ankle pain
  • Pelvic Girdle/SIJ pain
  • Numbness and tingling in arms or legs
  • Deconditioning that may manifest as difficulty, pain, or fatigue completing daily tasks

What can I expect?

  • a discovery call to discuss your goals and determine the right services for you; we will schedule your evaluation at the end of this call
  • an initial evaluation that looks at how you are currently moving, which may include an assessment of your abdominals, pelvic floor (externally), posture, breathing, strength, coordination/balance, scar tissue healing, and body mechanics – this varies based on your individual needs
  • review of a comprehensive plan of care/services that will typically include an estimate of frequency of visits as well as services to address your goals
  • considerations and modifications for birth based on your individual condition
  • Treatments may include:
    • Manual therapy (hands-on treatment)
    • Home Exercise Program
    • Education
